A year ago, Google Search’s global market share was still over 92%, but today it is 89% – a decent drop. When Microsoft announced the integration of its browser with Copilot AI last year, the first thought was that the Bing search engine would start winning back market share from that moment on. My intuition did not deceive me.
In fact, we can see market share growth for all top search engines, which suggests that the Google search engine is being abandoned.
The US government also came to the aid of competitors
The United States Department of Justice has submitted a proposal to the court, according to which Google must sell its Chrome browser to restore competition in the internet search market. In addition to selling Chrome, they want Google to share its search results and data with competitors and end exclusive agreements with Apple. These measures are part of a larger case aimed at ending Google’s illegal monopoly in the search engine and related advertising markets.
Google has criticized these proposals, arguing that they would harm consumers and businesses and threaten the economic and technological leadership of the United States. The trial is scheduled to begin in April, and a final decision is expected to be made before Labor Day.
